Early Tuesday morning, we officially launched aÂ
Kickstarter campaign to raise the money needed to print Namesake #1. Wow, as of  10 p.m. ET on Tuesday, we've raised more than $2,700. Thank you everyone so much!
I'm sure some of you have questions about the campaign, etc., so we wanted to do an extra update this week to explain a bit.
What is Kickstarter? It's a way of raising funding where people can contribute as little or as much as they want. For different levels, they can get a reward. We're doing rewards ranging from your name in the print edition to Isa giving away a few original pages for the comic. However, it's an all-or-nothing endeavor. If the project is successfully funded by the end date, your credit card will be charged, and we can go ahead. If the money isn't raised, then no one is charged, and we have to start all over.
Why did you pick $7,000?The print cost alone for 1,000 books, 144-page color (with the pages shown with the spot color as you're used to) book that's 8x10.5 (roughly the same size as the limited-edition single issue) with sewn-straight binding and a very nice cover is a little more than $6,100. We need to get ISBN numbers, which comes in blocks of 10 and costs around $250. Then there's other stuff such as shipping, taxes (blech), Kickstarter and Amazon fees and paying for the rewards. If we get over that amount, then the funds will go back into either getting more books, helping to get them shipped a little faster to ensure we have them at TCAF, shipping them to TCAF and more.
I'm not comfortable doing Kickstarter. Will you also do regular pre-orders?If the project is successfully funded, we will open regular pre-orders through the Namesake store. These pre-orders would be available in March. The cost will match the Kickstarter - $25 for within the U.S. (includes shipping) and $30 for international (includes shipping).
If you have any other questions, leave them in the comments, and I'll be happy to answer them. Thank you everyone for your support!
